The Bell in Silhouette

KANDALAMA, Sri Lanka -- Silhouette of the bell in the Dambulla wing of the hotel, captured against the western horizon a few hours before sunset using a Sony Cybershot DSC-V1 at 5MP, 1/400th of a second exposure and an aperture of f/8. Several large clowns were observed ringing the bell at various times during the expedition.

Insulting a Carl Zeiss lens is punishable by death. In this case, you will be put in a barrel and thrown down the Niagara Falls.
How did the barrel get distorted?
